Acoxpa – ETFE cushions roof
In 2018 we were involved in the project “Paseo Acoxpa”, a shopping mall in Mexico City, where we planned the impressive, gridded ETFE-cushion roof. The barrel-shaped construction with nearly 1.500 sq.m. is located above the main shopping passage with a length of 67 m and a width of 16 m.
A lean steel structure of intersecting beams results in a grid of 248 diamonds into which the transparent ETFE cushions have been mounted. The air-supported cushions are connected to a blower unit, which regulates the air pressure and automatically compensates for weather fluctuations.
For the diamond-shaped pillows, the acute angles were a special challenge and a wrinkle-free design was the top priority. Precise planning of the ETFE cushions and the specially developed clamping profile made it possible to fulfill this vision.
